Blackbutt Village Placemaking Murals
Brief
To create an artwork that tied in with the local business precinct branding over an area that needed uplifting with colour. To ties in the two opposing wall murals, we also stenciled the pattern design on the footpath. Newcastle City Council’s Placemaking Program has been doing wonderful things with the local business community to enliven the public spaces of what is a very delightful retail precinct.
Project Information
This mural was rather extensive, as it was over a water drain, so access via Hunter Water, whom were very supportive and helpful to help us bring this project to life. Three different surfaces including two walls and the footpath become canvases for three-layered stencils. The design utilises the Blackbutt Village a logo developed by the placemaking group. The colours also tie into street amenities such as benches and flower pots.
A special thank you to all the parties involved in helping deliver this unique project. Artwork by Simone Sheridan. Assisted by Lance Johnson, Sam Roberston and Mike Watt (paint courier). Lettering by City of Newcastle sign writing department.
