Beresfield Connect
Brief
This project is a Make Your Place placemaking project with The City of Newcastle, Street Art Walking, Beresfield Train Station and local schools to brighten up the stairs whilst work collaboratively on a design. A highlight for this project was the group involvement to engage with the local community. Chris Smith from the station worked with Woodberry Public School to draft ideas for designs to be painted on the stairs.
Project Information
A local artist Shane Kennedy from UP&UP worked with Michael Heitmeyer of Wakakulang painted the designs on the stairs. This project worked with a variety of ages groups to allow students to be part of the creative process. Special thank you to Wendy Peacock for referring Chris to us, Susan Denholm at The City of Newcastle and to the many hands involved on ensuring this project came to life!
Background
This project would not have been possible without the initiative of Mark and Helen Aylward who are positively the most inspiring pacemakers we know. We worked with Mark on the Wickham Stairs project which was a total labour of love that we are proud to be part of. The project has been embraced by the local community. “Students Adorn Beresfield Station Steps” by Sam Norris for The Maitland Mercury. Media link here.
